Everything You Need to Know About Alice in Borderland Season 3: Release Date, Cast, Plot, and More

Alice in Borderland season 3 is officially in production, so we can expect new episodes soon!

But what’s next for the exhausted players who thought they’d escaped the deadly games and were back in the real world?

Here’s everything we know about Alice in Borderland season three so far.

When Could Alice in Borderland Season 3 Be Released?

The production company behind the show, Robot Communications, shared a casting announcement detailing the timeline for filming.

The production schedule for season three initially stated that filming would kick off in September and wrap up by February 2024, as per The Direct. However, in May, producer Akira Morii gave a less optimistic update, revealing on X that the shoot was still ongoing and hadn’t yet finished.

After a long wait of over two years, fans finally saw season two of Alice in Borderland drop in December, following the release of the first season. In past seasons, there was typically a nine-month gap between production wrapping and the Netflix premiere, which suggests that season three might not make it to screens in 2024.

Given that production hasn’t officially concluded yet, it’s more likely that season three will land in 2025 — hopefully sooner rather than later in the year.

Cast of Alice in Borderland Season 3

Season two of Alice in Borderland brought back Niragi (Dori Sakurada) and Aguni (Shô Aoyagi), both of whom survived despite severe injuries, so we can expect them in season three.

However, Tatta, who was buried during the season, is unlikely to return.

Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) and Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya) are confirmed to return, with Netflix stating that their characters will continue to evolve in the dangerous world of Borderland.

Kuina (Aya Asahina), Chishiya (Nijirô Murakami), and Ann (Ayaka Miyoshi) survived season two, so they’re also expected to return.

Yuri Tsunematsu, who played Heiya, didn’t meet her end, making her return likely.

Riisa Naka, who portrayed Mira Kano, has expressed interest in returning, teasing the potential for her character to come back in season three, possibly alongside Hatter.

Fingers crossed!

What can we expect from Alice in Borderland season 3?

Season 3 of Alice in Borderland promises a shocking continuation for Arisu and his team. Despite believing they returned to the “real world” at the end of season 2, the appearance of the Joker card suggests they may still be trapped in another twisted reality.

The show could further explore Alice in Wonderland themes, such as the missing Tweedledum and Tweedledee, who manipulate words. It’s possible that the characters are in a virtual reality, similar to the illusion Arisu faced in the season finale. After rejecting the chance to become residents of the game, they may have unknowingly entered a new, even more dangerous game.

With the introduction of face cards, the difficulty level has escalated, and the Joker could bring the cruelest manipulations yet. As Arisu’s group faces greater challenges, they’ll struggle with no memories of past games or relationships.

In season 2, the players defeated the existing gamemasters—former contestants who became “citizens”—and were given a choice: stay in the game or leave. Banda (Hayato Isomura) and Yaba (Katsuya Maiguma) chose to stay, potentially taking on the role of new gamemasters in season 3.

While the show caught up with the manga’s storyline by season 2, there’s still room for expansion. The existential themes of life’s meaning and existence explored in both the manga and show could be further developed in the new season.

Actor Kento Yamazaki explained, “Season 2 went beyond just the death game and delved into deeper questions about life.” Though based on the manga, season 3 will likely introduce original elements, keeping the series fresh. Yamazaki teased that Arisu, now more confident and willing, will face even greater challenges in the upcoming season.
